چکیده

The Research Council of Norway has established a number of Centres for Research-based Innovation (CRIs). The main objective of these centres is to enhance the capability of the business sector to innovate by focusing on long-term research based on forging close alliances between research-intensive enterprises and prominent research groups. The CRI SAMCoT (Sustainable Arctic Marine and Coastal Technology) is hosted by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). SAMCoT started in 2011 and is now entering a phase of harvesting on the research continuously being done. This paper presents some findings of the research at SAMCoT and shows how the clustering of research efforts can lead to innovations in the Arctic offshore industry and a better understanding of the Arctic physical environment.

Arctic marine fishes and their fisheries in light of global change

In light of ocean warming and loss of Arctic sea ice, harvested marine fishes of boreal origin (and their fisheries) move poleward into yet unexploited parts of the Arctic seas. Industrial fisheries, already in place on many Arctic shelves, will radically affect the local fish species as they turn up as unprecedented bycatch. Arctic marine fishes are indispensable to ecosystem structuring and f...

Identification and study of some ecological indicators of Scyphomedusae from coastal waters of Khuzestan and Hormozgan (the North of Persian Gulf)

Coastal waters of Khuzestan and Hormozgan provinces are very important in the fisheries industry. Due to of direct and indirect impacts of the Jellyfish on the dynamic of fish larvae and zooplankton, study of their population is very important. So that in this study scyphomedusae were collected in summer and winter of 2015 from 6 stations of coastal waters of Khuzestan and Hormozgan. Sampling w...

Sustainable Environment – Monitoring of Radionuclide and Heavy Metal Accumulation in Sediments, Algae and Biota in Black Sea Marine Ecosystems

The implementation of advanced methods and technology in the field of marine ecosystems studies is important to assess the impact of pollutants on marine ecosystems and biodiversity and biota interactions, including reliable study of radionuclide and heavy metal content in soils, sediments and algae. Creation of data bases for long term environmental management of pollution; evaluation of ecolo...

Accumulation of perfluorooctane sulfonate in marine mammals.

Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) is a perfluorinated molecule that has recently been identified in the sera of nonindustrially exposed humans. In this study, 247 tissue samples from 15 species of marine mammals collected from Florida, California, and Alaskan coastal waters; and northern Baltic Sea; the Arctic (Spitsbergen); and Sable Island in Canada were analyzed for PFOS. PFOS was detected in...

Shallow methylmercury production in the marginal sea ice zone of the central Arctic Ocean

Methylmercury (MeHg) is a neurotoxic compound that threatens wildlife and human health across the Arctic region. Though much is known about the source and dynamics of its inorganic mercury (Hg) precursor, the exact origin of the high MeHg concentrations in Arctic biota remains uncertain. Arctic coastal sediments, coastal marine waters and surface snow are known sites for MeHg production. Observ...
